Hadouken headlining the Colston Hall Bristol
If you want to take your boyfriend to a gig where you sip red wine and grasp your beloved’s hand during the power ballad, then Hadouken may not be the best choice. Headlining the Coleston Hall in Bristol they tore the place up with lasers that shoot through your eyes, bass that goes down to your toes and a moss pit that made you cringe at the very sight of it.
The air was filled with anticipation as they walked on to a darkened stage and turned the notches up from excited to euphoric. Following the outstanding drum and bass trio The Qemists, Hadouken stayed true to form by shaking the inside of your eardrums with amp blowing bass and some news to share with their fans. Not only were they celebrating their fifth anniversary as a band, they also revealed their newest signing to esteemed record label on the dance scene, Ministry of Sound.
Bashing out tunes including Mic Check, Mecha Love and the crowd pleaser That Boy That Girl I leave the Coleston Hall with buzzing ears, a sign of a good night. James Smith, fronting the band, oozed energy and humour singing ‘you look silly, when you put on your best myspace pout’ raving to the techno sounds of synths and bass. Parting the crowd like some Bible story he eagerly counted down to the chaos of a mosh pit during Oxygen, that not only featured boys but girls too.
Unscratched I walk through the halls drunk on the buzz of the gig yet sober on a diet coke I admire the bands merchandise table, who knew the Leeds rockers were so fashionable championing the geek chic look.
The V Word
Ahead of the Vagina Monologues coming to the Stroud Subscription Rooms next week, I interviewed Zaraah Abrahams, who has starred in Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Dancing on Ice, about the show and talking about the V word.
